Company History & Heritage
William Anderson, 1st Generation
Founded by William Anderson in 1868, Kinloch Anderson has upheld its commitment to Quality Authentic Scottish Style for over 150 years.
Douglas & John Kinloch Anderson, 5th & 6th Generation
The very first Kinloch Anderson retail store was opened in George Street, Edinburgh. Kinloch Anderson has designed and manufactured authentic, licensed tartan for the entirety of its 150 year history, and its original store, while including a “modern” twist on traditional highland clothing, was no exception. The shop’s displays featured exquisitely tailored Scottish-inspired clothing and the shelves were lined with high-quality textiles with a focus on tartan.

Royal Warrants of Appointment for Kinloch Anderson
One of the highest honors awarded to companies is the Royal Warrant of Appointment, a distinction that recognizes people and businesses who provide goods or services to the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, or the Prince of Wales. Kinloch Anderson received all three.
The First Royal Warrant was granted to W.J. Kinloch Anderson by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in 1955. This act came only a couple years after the Queen was crowned in 1953. The next Royal Warrant came from The Duke of Edinburgh in 1956. Both these Royal Warrants were granted to Douglas Kinloch Anderson in 1972, and in 1980 Douglas accepted Kinloch Anderson’s First Royal Warrant from The Prince of Wales.
The Kinloch Anderson brand is proud of its legacy and influence within the history of Scottish textiles. Honor for their legendary past is evident today as the brand draws inspiration from old styles and antique catalogs. The tried-and-true qualities of traditional Scottish clothing continues to improve the style and comfort of today’s modern clothing aesthetics.
